Switchable solvents – squaring the circle of easily separable, non-volatile solvents

Switchable solvents are liquids with properties that are rapidly and reversibly altered in response to specific changes in their environment. These solvents are promising alternatives to hazardous, volatile organic solvents used in chemical synthesis, plastic recycling and the separation of valuable components from complex agricultural waste.
