NZIC mid-winter celebration
The Canterbury Branch’s June Event was a social occasion celebrating mid-winter. Thirty people enjoyed mulled wine (rather necessary in the cold we’ve been having) and a really nice afternoon tea-style spread. It was a great chance to catch up in a warm and convivial atmosphere.

Recent PhD completions
Nerissa Tannuwidjaja has successfully completed her PhD. Nerissa’s thesis was titled, “Alternative approaches towards the eradication of mammalian pests” and she was supervised by Professor Rudi Marquez-Mazlin. The viva voce exam took place over Zoom and Nerissa was examined by Professor Gordon Miskelly (Auckland). Professor Eric Amigues (Xi’an Jiaotong–Liverpool University) was the external examiner.
The examination was a thoroughly enjoyable discussion of synthetic organic chemistry, some mechanistic chemistry, analytical chemistry and bio/enviro-remediation chemistry. Nerissa answered each question in a thoughtful and carefully considered manner with a high degree of intellectual rigour. Well done and congratulations Nerissa!
