NZIC Quiz 2024

After a lengthy hiatus courtesy of COVID-19, NZIC Canterbury once again held a quiz on the evening of Wednesday 15 May. The event was a huge success. We had 13 teams from school kids to undergrads to academic staff filling ER140 and making for an excellent evening of fun. We also got an interesting insight into our Branch Chair and NZIC VP Dr Michael Edmonds’ taste in music and movies from some of the questions. Thanks to Michael for the questions and Paula Brooksby for keeping the scores.

Congratulations to the somewhat controversially named, “The Best Side of the 5th Floor” (Kathryn Thatcher, Joel Schuurman, Anton Faeldin, Oscar Henderson-Walshe, Catherine Orr) on taking the win, one point ahead of “Ironic Solutions” (Jan Wikaira, Don McNickle, Sarah Masters, Imogen Masters, Isobel Masters) with the interestingly named “Foot” (William Oakley, Zoe Penny, Myles Landon, Matt Goodwin, Joe Ramana) in 3rd place (not to be confused with a different team called “The Other Foot”…).

“The Mighty Chondrias” (Michelle Klein, Fiona Given, Abby Meynell, Kate Wallace, Johanna Peters) won the best team name.

The Canterbury Branch of NZIC are very grateful to our sponsors for all the prizes (NZIC Canterbury Branch, ChemSoc, Biomolecular Interaction Centre [BIC], University Bookshop Canterbury, Uni Pharmacy Canterbury, Café 101, Nuts & Bolts Café), with everyone going home with something.
