Thalia is a PhD student at the University of Canterbury, studying both environmental science and atmospheric chemistry. Her multidisciplinary research explores the role and impact of atmospheric microplastics in the Southern Ocean region. Recently, she received an Aho Hīnātore Accelerator Scholarship, awarded by Te Kaunihera - Council of the University of Canterbury. Thalia is working under the supervision of Laura Revell, Associate Professor in Environmental Physics and Sally Gaw, Professor in Environmental Science. Thalia previously worked as a plastic pollution consultant in London for 3 years and recently as a microplastic research assistant for Archipelagos Institute for Marine Conservation in Lipsi, Greece. She was awarded a PCAS (Postgraduate Certificate in Antarctic Studies) in 2019, following an MSc in Environmental Management and Sustainable Development during which she completed a thesis on dendrochemical research of Scots Pine (Pinus Sylvestris) species in the UK.
